Who is she? This Mexican mountain climber was the first Latin American woman to reach the top of Mount Everest by the northern route (1999) and, in 2005, the first Latina to achieve the Mountain Climbing Grand Slam (which involves conquering the highest peaks on each continent)…
Where are the best spots for climbing in Mexico?
Our volcanoes offer great climbing experiences because of their height. I recommend Iztaccíhuatl, Citlaltépetl (Pico de Orizaba) and Nevado de Toluca.
What was the toughest summit for you?
The northern approach to Mount Everest. It is a huge challenge because of the altitude and the techniques you have to use at nearly 28,000 feet above sea level.
Which Latin American peak is not to be missed?
Definitely Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in the Americas. It’s a privilege to see the Andes from the summit.
Where do you relax after a tough climb?
The Caribbean coast, Playa del Carmen or Tulúm in Mexico or, if I’ve been climbing in South America, Viña del Mar or Pucón in Chile.
