We can analyze our options as profoundly as we like, but we can never be 100-percent sure what will happen on that route. Each of our paths is unique, and that uncertainty is part of the beauty of life.
A trip is the best example of how choosing a route can be a life-altering decision. Deciding where you want to live, with whom you want to start a family or where you’d like to retire are the questions we face as we forge our chosen path.
It’s not surprising that roads as a concept are a source of fascination for thinkers, writers, artists and intellectuals. And everyone has, at one point or another, faced the literal and metaphorical decision between two paths, without knowing exactly which one will take us where we want to go. Perhaps the best analogy for the road is that which makes us take responsibility for our decisions – as Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral says, “Where there’s a tree to plant, plant it yourself; where there’s a mistake to amend, amend it yourself; where there’s an effort to be made that others are avoiding, do it yourself. Let it be you who pushes aside the stone in the road.”
