Our Greatest Hits

“From Latin America with Love.” What a great title to begin the new year. The feature in question is a summary of the most significant creations from our region that have made an impact here and around the world: Latin America’s greatest hits, which we recall with nostalgia, joy and admiration. Names like Isabel Allende or Maradona immediately spring to mind, but what about havaiana flip-flops? Cebiche? Dulce de leche? Nicolás Lapentti or Juan Martín del Potro? Mafalda or Ugly Betty? There are so many examples, and we had a blast compiling them for the first 2010 issue of in.

Speaking of the best from Latin America, this month’s interview is with Ricardo Arjona. Meanwhile, Peruvian writer Santiago Roncagliolo pays homage to another super star, José José, whose songs focus on the slights and humiliations endured by long-suffering men at the hands of unfaithful women. This issue’s travel pieces offer great variety, from the traditional Rapa Nui Tapati celebration on Easter Island to an enormous cruise ship sailing along the coast of Mexico, Belize and Florida to a ranch estate in Patagonia, where guests can get a taste of the gaucho lifestyle. We also take a look at the “Little North” of Peru, as well as Rome, Medellín and Asunción.
