Cheers!

There is no shortage of perks when it comes to the current wine boom: excellent bottles at reasonable prices, with a wide variety of brands and varietals at specialty store and supermarkets, and a wonderful wine culture that includes everything from products and pairing to tourism and travel. This variety is what we wanted to highlight in our special wine issue, through a careful selection of the best wineries in Argentina and Chile where you can stay, dine, explore and shop, places that offer an opportunity to truly immerse yourself the wine experience.

Along with this practical guide, we’ve included an article about high-altitude wineries situated at up to 9,800 feet above sea level. Through effort, technology and skill, these high-flying vines have managed to produce superior-quality wines. There’s also a very funny piece from Chilean writer Elizabeth Subercaseaux that reflects on the relationship between women and champagne, plus a guide to traveling in Burgundy, the French region renowned for its great wine and magnificent scenery.

And that’s not the only place we visit in this issue. From Burgundy, we head to Paris, crisscrossing the Seine to explore both banks. In Ecuador, we tour the Galapagos Islands and learn about environmental conservation efforts on the archipelago. And in China, we examine the contrast between the super-developed cities of Shanghai and Hong Kong versus the country’s small, rural towns, which seem frozen in time.

As always, enjoy your flight and this issue of in magazine.

The O-Riedel Glass: It’s not your typical wine glass, nor the most elegant, but I love its round shape.
