When I read the essay written by Leonor Varela, a talented actress and amateur surfer, I understood why so many people are captivated by this sport. Varela talks about her first experiences on a surfboard and what it feels flight to “fly” atop a wave. The fear factor is nothing when compared to the adrenaline rush and the feeling of freedom. Today, this combination makes for sure success. More and more people are taking up surfing and no wonder: the lifestyle offers pure simplicity, closeness with nature and overall good vibes. And when it comes to business, surfing is nothing less than a sensation. The best part? Latin America is a full-fledged surfing continent, home to promising future stars, the best breaks and beaches and a way of life that perfectly matches the surfer’s philosophy. Our cover story is a comprehensive guide featuring great tips on surf spots and other information for a number of Latin American countries.
But this issue is as diverse and relaxed as surfing itself. Our travel features will take you around the world to see gorillas in Rwanda and tour the Ecuadorian Amazon, for a taste of wilderness and adventure on expeditions that are still under the radar. Madrid, Paris and Rome provide plenty of European charm, with tips on fashion, design and fine cuisine. And closer to home, discover Panguipulli, 500 miles south of Santiago, with hot springs, lakes, volcanoes and the peacefulness of provincial life. There are also tips for enjoying a weekend in Montevideo, ecotourism in Los Angeles and a quick getaway to Comodoro Rivadivia, Argentina; Punta Arenas, Chile, or Cajamarca, Peru. And there’s still plenty more to discover between these covers.
Enjoy this month’s issue of in during your flight.
