Colombia, My Love

An editorial is by definition subjective, so I’ll leave any pretense of objectivity aside: Colombia is one of my favorite countries, and this issue’s cover story is a real treat. In recent years, Colombia has enjoyed a significant upswing in tourism, and no wonder, it’s a treasure just waiting to be discovered. We present 97 tips in four main cities – Bogotá, Cali, Cartagena de Indias and Medellín – to help you explore, enjoy, shop, savor, admire and learn about this incredible country, home to beaches on two oceans, verdant mountains, a swath of the Amazon, cities rich in culture, great coffee and even better conversation. The interview with Juanes, one of the brightest stars in Latin American music, demonstrates the straightforward simplicity for which Colombians are so well known. Meanwhile, our photo essay showcases some of the best works of public architecture built in recent years, each of which reflects Colombian society’s capacity to improve the lives of its people. Clearly, there is more than enough material in this issue to explain my fascination with this beloved land. But there are also other destinations to highlight. In this issue, we include information on the beaches and parks of the Australian coast outside of Sydney and an introduction to a town near Florianópolis, Brazil, that has preserved the country’s colonial charm as well as the great beaches that have made this country so famous. Finally, a weekend tour invites you to the sun- and surf-filled coast of Tumbes and Piura in northern Peru. Enjoy your trip and in magazine.
